Improving the scene performance on lower spec devices

During this time some users may have to start working from home on hardware that isn't quite as powerful as what they have in their office. Due to this we have put together a quick list of things that users can try to improve their scenes performance on these devices:

  1. Look at Diagnostics window at frame rate, cull and draw times, number of batches
  2. Look at browser models in list view - sort by iprims - identify largest models - judge whether they can be improved by
  3. Re-importing with different importer settings - specifically the tesselation drop down. Or custom control over chord height
  4. Using the optimize models geometry operator
  5. Enable coverage LOD
  6. Enable overlapped culling
  7. Enable occlusion culling
  8. Manage number of shadow casting lights
  9. Add scene LOD to turn off assemblies
  10. Disable sequence key frame help displays
  11. Check HDR/AO/SSR settings
  12. Try toggling instance geogroups
  13. Look for high numbers of materials in scene / on lots of geogroups - merge geogroups geometry operator may help
  14. Look for high numbers of visuals with material overrides, and move these overrides onto the geogroups directly if possible
